In the Province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy you will find the Castle of Rocca Calascio. This castle sits at 4790 ft/1460 meters and was constructed only for military purposes to accommodate troops. A center taller inner tower is surrounded by 4 smaller towers which were added in the 13th century. The fortress was never used in a battle but was badly damaged in 1461 by an earthquake.
